Croatia will be able to invest more in defence while also funding other national priorities, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Sunday, citing continued economic growth.

In a post on social media platform X following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Dayton, Plenković reaffirmed Croatia’s commitment to the alliance and regional stability.

“As a responsible NATO ally, Croatia supports the stability and European perspective of Southeast Europe,” Plenković said. “Through continued investments in defence capabilities, Croatia allocates 2% of GDP to defence, with 30% to 40% of that going toward military modernisation.”

Plenković and Rutte discussed plans to raise defence spending, strengthen European defence initiatives and deepen transatlantic cooperation.

“With robust economic growth, Croatia will be able to further increase defence investments while also ensuring funding for other national priorities,” Plenković added.

The Croatian Prime Minister is attending the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Dayton, the U.S. city where the peace agreement that ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was signed 30 years ago.
