Around 10 Croatian nationals remain in Iran following coordinated strikes by United States and Israel on Iranian targets, Croatia’s Foreign and European Affairs Ministry said on Saturday, adding that its embassy in Tehran had been evacuated earlier.
“In Iran there were around 20 Croatian nationals, but some have since left the country,” the ministry said in a statement. “At this moment we estimate that around 10 Croatian nationals remain.”
The ministry said no Croatian citizens had so far requested consular assistance.
Croatia’s embassy in Tehran, including Ambassador Drago Štambuk, had previously been evacuated. One staff member remains on the ground, the ministry added, saying it was closely monitoring developments.
The announcement came after the United States and Israel carried out coordinated attacks on Iran, marking a sharp escalation in tensions in the Middle East.
Croatian authorities did not provide further details on potential evacuation plans but said they were in regular contact with Croatian citizens in the region.
