Croatia is set to experience predominantly sunny and hot weather from Saturday through Monday, with inland areas expected to see very high temperatures by the start of the week, the national meteorological service DHMZ said on Thursday.

Daytime temperatures on Thursday ranged from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, and up to 33°C in Dalmatia. Inland areas saw light winds and brief cloud cover with a low chance of isolated showers. On the Adriatic coast, a moderate to strong bura wind was reported in the morning, giving way to northwesterly and westerly winds in the afternoon.

According to DHMZ, mostly sunny and hot conditions will persist through the weekend. Inland regions are expected to turn very hot by Monday. Some cloudiness and brief showers may occur late Saturday and overnight into Sunday, particularly in the northern Adriatic and mountainous Gorski Kotar.

Winds will remain light to moderate, mainly from the southwest, with temporary northwesterlies in eastern Croatia on Sunday. On the coast, southwesterly and southerly winds will dominate, including jugo winds.

Temperatures will continue to rise until Thursday, when a significant change is expected.

According to forecasts cited by broadcaster N1, a cold front is likely to move in from the northwest on Friday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures — between 10°C and 12°C — along with thunderstorms, strong wind gusts, and heavy downpours in some areas. Hail is possible in the region between the Sava and Drava rivers.

On the Adriatic coast, the front is expected to trigger strong to gale-force bura winds.
