Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev held a telephone conversation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to discuss the bloc’s unity and security priorities, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Georgiev reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to fostering consensus within the European Union amid ongoing geopolitical challenges, emphasizing the importance of a united and resilient EU to safeguard security and prosperity for its citizens. The minister highlighted the significance of addressing crises in Ukraine and the Middle East as key priorities.

During the call, Georgiev outlined Bulgaria’s priorities for the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy for the upcoming institutional cycle. These include support for EU enlargement based on merit, further integration of the Western Balkans, ensuring security in the Black Sea region, and continued backing for Ukraine, along with addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East.

Both Georgiev and Kallas underscored Bulgaria’s pivotal role as an EU Member State in promoting peace, security, and adherence to the bloc’s principles of unity and consensus.
