The Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the party led by Milorad Dodik, said on Wednesday it will take part in a snap election for the president of Bosnia’s Serb Republic on Nov. 23.

The ballot was called after the termination of Dodik’s mandate in August. Dodik, who was convicted last year by Bosnia’s state court for defying decisions of the international peace envoy, is barred from holding public office for six years.

The SNSD has yet to announce its candidate.

The opposition Serb Democratic Party (SDS) has nominated Branko Blanuša, a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Banja Luka. Draško Stanivuković, the mayor of Banja Luka and leader of the Party of Democratic Progress, reiterated that his party would not field a candidate.
