The Serb Democratic Party (SDS) in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS) has submitted a draft resolution condemning the glorification of the World War II-era Ustaše regime, prompting debate among Bosnian Serb lawmakers over its scope and wording.

SDS parliamentary leader Ognjen Bodiroga said the party had collected 28 signatures to request a special parliamentary session to discuss the resolution, which calls for a ban on Ustaše ideology and designates Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson as persona non grata.

“The signatures and draft resolution have been submitted, meeting the requirements for a special session,” Bodiroga told reporters in Banja Luka.

However, Srđan Mazalica, head of the SNSD parliamentary group, told N1 that while his party supports condemning Ustaše ideology, it considers the SDS proposal too narrowly focused and insufficiently coordinated. Mazalica emphasized that the NSRS should not adjust its language based on the content of Thompson’s concerts.

The resolution comes after two concerts by Thompson in Široki Brijeg, which sparked controversy in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the singer’s use of Ustaše-related symbols and songs.

Discussions are ongoing in the NSRS, where party leaders are meeting to seek consensus on the draft before the special session.
