Milorad Dodik, the president of Bosnia’s Serb entity Republika Srpska (RS), claimed on Monday that an assassination attempt against him had been planned by unnamed businessmen who allegedly offered €1 million to hire gunmen.
Speaking at a press conference, Dodik said the plot was organized in the town of Konjic, where “a group of individuals was assembled” and supported financially by business figures. He alleged the gunmen included individuals from Novi Pazar and parts of Bosnia, whom he described as “criminal Muslim Bosniaks.”
“They were instructed to carry out the attack at a specific time and place, on Serbian territory,” Dodik said. He added that he was aware of the names of those behind the plan but refrained from disclosing them, saying that responsibility lay with security services to release such details.
Dodik claimed one of the suspected assailants from Novi Pazar was already in custody in Serbia, while another was being held in pre-trial detention in Rijeka, Croatia.
He said he was awaiting the results of the investigation and hoped to learn the motive behind the alleged attempt on his life.
“I feel completely safe when protected by the police forces of Republika Srpska and Serbia,” he added.
Authorities in Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have not publicly commented on Dodik’s allegations, and no official confirmation of the reported arrests has been issued.
The claims come amid heightened political tensions in Bosnia, where Dodik remains a deeply polarizing figure and is currently facing multiple criminal charges filed by the state prosecutor’s office.
