University of Belgrade Remains on QS World Rankings, Slips in Latest Edition

The University of Belgrade has retained its place among the world’s leading higher education institutions in the latest QS World University Rankings, although it recorded a slight decline compared with last year.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2027, Serbia’s largest and oldest university is ranked in the 801–850 category, down from the 761–770 range in the previous edition.

The University of Novi Sad also secured a place on the list, ranking between 1,201 and 1,400 globally. However, the universities of Niš and Kragujevac were not included this year, having last appeared in the rankings two years ago.

Among universities from the former Yugoslavia, the highest-ranked institution is the University of Ljubljana, which placed 530th worldwide. The University of Zagreb followed in the 721–730 range.

The ranking continues to be led by globally renowned institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Imperial College London, Stanford University, Oxford University, Harvard University and the University of Cambridge.

QS places the greatest emphasis on research performance and scientific output, which account for 50 percent of the overall score. Academic reputation contributes 30 percent, while employment outcomes and employer reputation account for 20 percent.

The ranking also evaluates internationalization, teaching quality and sustainability, reflecting universities’ global engagement, student-to-faculty ratios and contribution to sustainable development.
