Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov pledged Sofia’s continued support for Montenegro’s European Union accession during an official visit to Podgorica on Monday, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic said.
Milatovic’s office said the talks reaffirmed what it called “excellent relations” between the two countries, rooted in traditional friendship and close historical and cultural ties.
“Bulgaria, as an EU member state and NATO ally, continuously provides strong support for Montenegro’s European bid,” Milatovic said after the meeting.
He stressed that Montenegro must accelerate reforms to join the EU, setting 2028 as a target year. “Our obligation is to speed up reforms, to meet the commitments and to become a full member of the EU by 2028,” he said.
