Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister for Education, Science and Relations with Religious Communities, Budimir Aleksic, said on Monday that continued dialogue on teachers’ salaries is in everyone’s interest and stressed the need to reach a solution that supports education workers.

Aleksic made the remarks following a meeting with representatives of the Education Trade Union (SPCG), led by union president Radomir Bozovic, according to a statement from his office.

The talks focused on the current challenges in the education sector, particularly the impact of a new centralized salary calculation system, which is expected to reduce pay for a significant number of education employees.

SPCG representatives briefed Aleksic on efforts to prevent the pay cuts and outlined planned measures to protect union members’ rights, the statement said.

The union also called on Aleksic to use his influence to advocate with Prime Minister Milojko Spajic and Education Minister Andjela Jaksic Stojanovic for the resumption of social dialogue, which has reportedly been stalled for the past 15 days.
