Around 200 Greek-owned vessels are currently operating in the wider region of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, Greek shipping ministry sources told the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA), amid growing concerns over regional security.
The Ministry of Shipping is on heightened alert due to fears of an escalation in the Red Sea and the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key chokepoint for global energy supplies.
Despite the tensions, shipping industry officials said vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains largely unaffected. They noted that existing contractual obligations require companies to continue transport operations under agreed terms.
