North Macedonia’s Minister of European Affairs and national IPA coordinator, Orhan Murtezani, met on Monday with European Court of Auditors representatives Bertrand Tanguy and Erik Kotlarik to discuss the implementation and coordination of transport projects under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), the Ministry of European Affairs said in a statement.
Murtezani emphasized the strategic importance of the WBIF as a tool to channel EU funds into key sectors including transport, energy, environment, healthcare, and education. He also highlighted its role in supporting the country’s Reform Agenda 2024–2027 and the EU’s Reform and Growth Facility.
Discussions focused on the need to simplify procedures, improve transparency regarding the roles of international financial institutions, and boost the capacity of the National IPA Coordinator (NIPAC) office, particularly in project monitoring and coordination.
According to the ministry, both sides stressed that project readiness and alignment with reform priorities will be critical to fully utilizing available EU funds by 2027.
Murtezani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to effectively managing EU-supported investments and positioning North Macedonia as a constructive regional partner in EU integration.
The meeting was the first in a series of consultations the European Court of Auditors will hold this week with national institutions as part of its country mission.
