Serbia’s minister for European integration, Nemanja Starović, on Thursday dismissed allegations by former diplomat Nebojša Vujović that the government is negotiating a secret agreement on Kosovo.

Starović took to X to criticise Vujović’s comments, calling them “blatant lies” without evidence and accusing the former envoy of attempting to undermine a recent visit by Foreign Minister Marko Đurić to Washington and damage relations between Serbia and the United States.

“Vujović again talks about ‘secret agreements’ and the betrayal of Kosovo and Metohija. As always, without any proof or credible indication, the source is just his corrupt imagination mixed with bad intent,” Starović said in the post.

He reiterated that Serbia, led by President Aleksandar Vučić, remains committed to defending its territorial integrity and pursuing diplomatic efforts despite what he described as “defeatist” critics.

Vujović, commenting to the Beta news agency, said Đurić was invited to Washington so that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio could present him with a binding secret agreement on Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence. He claimed the visit’s main purpose was to push Serbia closer to formal recognition of Kosovo.

Vujović also alleged that such a step would benefit both U.S. interests and President Vučić politically by helping him avoid domestic and international pressure, although Starović denied these assertions.

Serbia does not formally recognise Kosovo’s independence, and officials have repeatedly rejected any proposal that would imply recognition as part of diplomatic negotiations.
