Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said the newly reconstructed road section leading to Bosnia and Herzegovina is of regional and international significance, marking the beginning of a broader push to develop national motorway infrastructure.
“It is a great pleasure to open another road section that, beyond its regional importance, carries international weight. This road to Bosnia spans 34 kilometres, and the completion of this final segment concludes the project, which was valued at €7 million,” Spajić said at the opening ceremony.
He emphasized the road’s strategic role in connecting Montenegro with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and further with cities such as Trebinje and Mostar, as well as Croatia and, ultimately, the rest of Europe.
“This project clearly goes beyond local relevance. It is crucial for Montenegro’s balanced development that every municipality has active projects, and we are committed to implementing them to the end. We are working across the southern, northern, and central regions—we will leave no part of Montenegro behind,” Spajić added.
Spajić also said Montenegro is entering a new investment cycle focused on modern road infrastructure.
“In addition to regional highways, we will soon have full-fledged motorways. As early as this summer, we hope to sign a deal to launch the Andrijevica–Mateševo project. Furthermore, as part of the upcoming budget revision, we will begin work on a 9.2-kilometre expressway bypass around Budva to Grbalj. Built to European standards, this four-lane road qualifies as a motorway,” he said.
Spajić noted that the government is moving into the phase of construction tenders, having completed conceptual design work that was not in place when the administration took office.
Transport Minister Maja Vukićević said the M7 route has undergone complete reconstruction, including new sidewalks and lighting.
“These improvements will enhance safety for both pedestrians and drivers,” she said.
Vukićević stressed that this is one of several infrastructure projects being successfully completed, with more expected to begin soon.
“We are active in both the south and the north of the country. The Ministry of Transport and the government are undertaking numerous initiatives. Our commitment is to build a better, more modern infrastructure,” she concluded.
