Nearly half of the applicants seeking Greek citizenship failed the latest round of mandatory naturalization exams, Greece’s Interior Ministry said on Friday.
Of the 4,222 candidates who sat for the Certificate of Adequate Knowledge for Naturalization on April 6, only 2,136 passed, while 12 were disqualified for cheating. The overall pass rate stood at 50.74%.
The standardized exam is a prerequisite for non-Greek nationals applying for citizenship and tests knowledge of the Greek language, history, culture and civic institutions.
The ministry described the test as a “decisive first step” toward citizenship and urged successful candidates to contact local offices to proceed with their applications.
