Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Thursday that construction of the Belgrade Expo 2027 site was progressing on schedule and should be completed by September next year, describing the project as the largest construction site in the region.
Vučić toured the grounds with First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Siniša Mali and said the complex, covering more than 110 hectares, was “slowly becoming a city within a city.” He posted images from the visit on Instagram.
“The outlines of seven Expo halls can already be seen, giving a completely different picture of this part of the site,” Vučić wrote. He said about 3,800 workers were engaged daily and praised what he called their “tireless work and effort.”
“We are preparing seriously so that in 2027 we can show the world what kind of hosts Serbs are,” he said, referring to the specialised Expo exhibition that Belgrade will host from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”
Mali said he had lost count of how many times he and Vučić had visited the site, calling 2026 a year in which the government aims to continue raising living standards and delivering infrastructure projects. “We continue building a better and more beautiful country. Long live Serbia,” he wrote on Instagram.
According to officials, nearly 130 countries have confirmed participation in Expo 2027, which is organised under the auspices of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and is intended to showcase innovation, technology and cultural programmes.
