Kosovo businessman and investor Behgjet Pacolli dismissed reports suggesting that Albania’s Vlora International Airport project faces legal or construction obstacles, calling them “fabrications driven by personal interests.”
In a Facebook post, Pacolli shared new images from the construction site, stressing that work on the airport remains on schedule and within contractual deadlines. He described the project as one of the largest private investments in Albania’s public infrastructure.
“The Vlora Airport (the largest private investment in public infrastructure) is being completed within the contractual timeframe and is taking the shape of one of the most modern and functional airports in the region,” Pacolli wrote. “Thanks to Prime Minister Edi Rama’s vision and personal input, especially on aesthetics and interior design, the project is becoming a ‘boutique airport’ — unique in its kind and a national pride.”
Pacolli’s statement followed media reports claiming that the Tirana Court had ordered the suspension of construction activities linked to the airport. The reports suggested that the court had launched an investigation into Mabco Construction S.A., the Swiss-based parent company involved in the project.
Responding to the allegations, Pacolli said that the reports were spread by individuals “whose financial interests I have cut off due to evident abuses,” adding that he trusts the judiciary will act impartially and lawfully.
Albanian media have reported that the Tirana Court placed Pacolli, his brother Emin Pacolli, and Mabco Construction administrator Nelson Çela under investigation for alleged serious fraud, computer fraud, and falsification of documents.
The Vlora International Airport, a flagship infrastructure project located on Albania’s southern coast, is expected to boost tourism and regional connectivity. Despite the ongoing legal developments, Pacolli maintains that construction is continuing and nearing completion.
